Education and Awareness

Carnivore Research Malawi are conducting education and awareness activities in collaboration with project partners The Department of National Parks and Wildlife Malawi (DNPW), and Lilongwe Wildlife Trust.

The aims of the education project are to:

  1. Raise awareness of the importance and role of wild dogs and carnivores to biodiversity conservation
  2. Determine human perceptions of carnivores to identify barriers to conservation practice
  3. Minimize human wildlife conflict and promote coexistence between carnivores and people in surrounding communities

Education Activities

Working with project partners we conduct community talks and distribute leaflets and information packs around the study area to engage with local communities and increase understanding of carnivores and dispel myths.

We are currently seeking further funding to develop education activities and teacher training packs that can be conducted at the Lilongwe Wildlife Trust Education Centre and then can be taken to the local communities surrounding Kasungu National Park and Nyika National Park.
